QUIRINDI, NSW – As the 2022 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Australia season continued Saturday evening, Aaron Kleier (Clermont, Queensland) and Clint Glass (Tamworth, New South Wales) tied for the event win at the Touring Pro Division in Quirindi, New South Wales, tying for the victory at the PBR Quirindi Show.
For Kleier, his march to victory began in Round 1 when he delivered the fourth-best score, marked 83 points atop Shotgun (ST Bucking Bulls).
The stoic Queensland native remained red-hot in the second round, clinching the shared victory when he dominated Tezzas Pride (JD Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points.
Kleier left the Quirindi Showgrounds and Racecourse having earned 21 national points, furthering his stronghold on the No. 1 rank. He now leads No. 2 Cody Heffernan (Singleton, New South Wales) by 234.5 points.
After tying David Kennedy (Kyogle, New South Wales) for most Australian national titles won by one rider in history in 2021, each now with four, should Kleier win his unprecedented fifth consecutive national title at season’s end, he would become the winningest bull rider in PBR Australia competition.
Marking his career-first PBR victory, Glass also earned 21 national points.
Glass’ 2-for-2 effort included an 84-point trip atop I’m Cool (Lazy G Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 and 82.5-point score aboard Instigator (Throsby & Russell Bucking Bulls) in Round 2.
Seeking his first qualification to the PBR Australia Grand Finals, Glass is now the No. 23-ranked rider in Australia.
Third was Braith Nock (Bendemeer, New South Wales).
Nock netted 4 national points courtesy of his 84-point ride on Dinero (Maynes Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, and 77.5-point score on A Force (ST Bucking Bulls) in Round 2.
In the race to be crowned the 2022 PBR Australia Champion, Nock is No. 9, 536.5 points behind No. 1 Kleier.
As the only other rider to go a perfect 2-for-2 in Quirindi, American newcomer Phillipi Braga was fourth.
Braga rode Bustin Up (Lazy G Bucking Bulls) for 80 points in the opening round of competition, before going the distance on Cliffhanger (Throsby and Russell/Richardson) for 73.5 points in Round 2.
Braga left Quirindi having earned 4 national points.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Heffernan.
The 2016 PBR Australia Champion’s performance was headlined by a Round 2-winning, 86.5-point score aboard Natural Hillbilly (Throsby & Russell & JC Cattle Co.).
Heffernan earned 10 national points.
In the bull pen, Almost Evil (Throsby & Russell/Baille), Big Buck Hunter (ST Bucking Bulls) and Say When (Throsby & Russell Bucking Bulls) tied for the high-marked Bull of the Event honor, each scored 43 points.
Almost Evil logged the score in Round 1 for his 5.12-second buckoff of Heffernan. Big Buck Hunter and Say When were both out in Round 1, upending Jono Couling (Singleton, New South Wales) in 1.93 seconds and Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, New South Wales) in a heart-breaking 7.37 seconds, respectively.
