CAMDEN, NSW – Four-time, and reigning, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Australia Champion Aaron Kleier (Clermont, Queensland) continued his seemingly unstoppable white-hot momentum Saturday evening, delivering a flawless 2-for-2 performance to win his seventh consecutive event at the Monster Energy Tour’s K-Ranch Invitational in Camden, New South Wales.
The victory allowed Kleier to further his stronghold on the No. 1 rank in the race to be crowned the 2022 PBR Australia Champion, now an increased 320.5 points ahead of the No. 2 contender.
After tying David Kennedy (Kyogle, New South Wales) for most Australian national titles won by one rider in history in 2021, each now with four, should Kleier win his unprecedented fifth consecutive national title at season’s end, he would become the winningest bull rider in PBR Australia competition.
Kleier first struck in Round 1 when he conquered Shotgun Willy (Lazy G Bucking Bulls) for 84 points to surge to an early lead in the event.
As Round 2 got underway, the stoic Queensland rider ready to square off with Mr. Buckmore (Throsby & Russell Bucking Bulls) in a rubber match.
After Kleier covered the bull for 87 points during their first meeting in 2018 during the Touring Pro Division stop in Blackall, Queensland, the bovine athlete got the better of him in their most recent meeting in 2019 during the developmental event in Sydney, New South Wales, sending Kleier to the ground in a hard-fought 7.37 seconds.
At K-Ranch Saturday evening, Kleier emerged the more dominant athlete, dominating Mr. Buckmore for an event-best 86 points to clinch the victory.
Kleier’s latest win earned him 80 national points.
In addition to winning seven straight events, Kleier is also amid an 11-out ride streak, last bucking off in mid-July.
Qynn Andersen (Koumala, Queensland) and Braith Nock (Bendemeer, New South Wales) tied for second, each garnering 47 national points.
Despite being bucked off by Navajo (Maynes Bucking Bulls) in a close 5.53 seconds in Round 1, Andersen returned determined for Round 2. Drawing Rolling Thunder (Throsby & Russell/Baille), Andersen reached the whistle for 83 points to cement his silver finish.
The 19-year-old remained No. 3 in Australian, now trailing No. 1 Kleier by 337 points.
Nock parlayed an 83-point score aboard Bustin Up (Lazy G Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 into his podium finish.
The home state hopeful rose one position from No. 9 to No. 8 in the Australian standings, closing within 642.5 points of the top spot.
Fourth was seven-time PBR World Finals qualifier Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, New South Wales), collecting 29 national points.
Going 1-for-2, Richardson rode Hard 2 Love (Throsby & Russell Bucking Bulls) for 82 points in Round 1.
Richardson left K-Ranch still No. 4 in Australia, now 406 points back of No. 1 Kleier.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was 2016 PBR Australia Champion Cody Heffernan (Singleton, New South Wales), who covered Instigator (Throsby & Russell Bucking Bulls) for 81.5 points in the opening round.
Heffernan maintained his No. 2 rank in the national standings.
In the bull pen, Feldt Jacket (MJ/Shultz Bucking Bulls) remained unridden, delivering his fifth career buckoff to be crowned the Bull of the Event. Feldt Jacket delivered an unmatched 43.5-point score in Round 2 when he dispatched Will Purcell (Merrijig, Victoria) in a swift 2.51 seconds.
