Standings Update: Rookies dominate as PBRA Tour returns to the Harbour City

As the PBR Australia tour heads to Sydney for the ninth stop of the calendar year this weekend for the PBR TPD Meatstock event, It's the rookies who headline the Standings after the early goings of the tour to date, with the top three all jostling for both the PBRA Gold Buckle and Rookie of the year honours.

Boston Leather sits at the top of the tree after eight events in his first season on the premier bull-riding tour in the country. He has covered 7 of his 21 bulls to date (33.3%) and has five top-5 finishes in the eight events thus far, including two event PBRA TPD wins.

Rd 1 Winton- Boston Leather 85.5 Points on All in

An 84-point trip in Round 1 at Cooyar was enough to win him first place, and in Bendigo, the Calliope Cowboy rode 2-from-3 for a 171.5-point event aggregate. 

Arguably the form rider of the PBRA tour as we head into Sydney this weekend, Australian #2 ranked bull-rider Toby Hale is hotly snapping at the heels of the aforementioned Leather. 

The Sarina, QLD product has four top-5 finishes in the six events he has turned out for in 2024. He has a 6-from-17 scorecard (35.29%) and boasts the highest ride percentage of all Cowboys with 10+ outs.

Rd 2 Winton- Toby Hale 86 points on Chewcudda

Having placed second in Monster Energy Tour events at Scone and last weekend's major in Winton, he will be looking to keep chipping away at the 82.5-point gap between himself and Leather, starting this weekend in Sydney. 

Another exciting up-and-coming bull rider finding his feet at the top level is Ben Bode. He is currently in possession of the third-place position and holds a 0.5-point lead on fellow Queenslander Braydon Wellby.

Bode has covered four of his fifteen trips on the tour in 2024, with the event win at Toowoomba in March, going 2-from-3, picking up his first PBRA event win.

Off the back of his first UTB event this past weekend in Billings, MT, Bode is one to watch for as the season heats up as we head towards PBR Origin time in less than eight weeks. 

Braydon Wellby's event-winning performance at Winton has skyrocketed the veteran into the top five, with the Townsville native's 2-from-3 weekend at the BAD Festival pocketing him 129 PBRA points. 

The two-time PBR Australia Grand Final qualifier is now sitting on 157.5 PBRA points and firmly within striking distance for the back half of season 2024.   

Rounding out the top five is Lane Mellers, who has also grabbed himself an event buckle this season at Scone, where he went 2-from-3 (171pts) during the first Monster Energy Tour Event of the season, as well as collecting pay-checks at both Beaudesert for a 2nd place and 4th at Winton.
