COOYAR QLD- The old saying that bull riding is truely a family sport is one that rung true on Saturday night in Cooyar with Boston Leather, the younger brother of current Australian champion Macaulie collecting the event win at the Cooyar Show PBR Australia Tour Pro Division Event.

As the PBR action rolled into the beautiful Toowoomba ranges, it was Boston's older brother Lijah Leather who was the first to gain a score on the evening when the Central Queenslander made sure Bumble Bud's (JD Bucking Bulls) PBR career started off conceding a score against, for a 79-point early yard marker for the rest of the field to come.

Boston was able to follow suit and gain a score of his own to take the Round one victory, sharing the chute with another bovine making it's first PBR appearance in Acid Trips (Robert Bunn), with a nice trip settling into a clockwise trip after a few jumps to clear the chutes and into the hand of Leather for an 84-point score.

After those two qualified rides early, honours for the remaining outs of the opening round went way of the animal athletes, with Shotgun (ST Bucking Bulls) dislodging Tyson Smith in 4.13 seconds as well as fellow ST Bucking Bulls bovine Turbo, who was able to get the better of Windella, NSW Cowboy Josh Grant in 2.21 seconds to share the high bull of the round.

Round two was one that heralded more celebrations from the back of the bucking chutes, with Toby Hale the first rider to find the eight in the 2nd stanza, giving WKW Earthmoving Little Muddy Jacket (Ruhland Ranch Bucking Bulls) its third straight qualified ride and putting himself in the pay packet with an 82.5-point effort.

Walcha, NSW competitor Tyson Smith gained his first score of 2024, knocking back a performance re-ride opportunity to take the 70-point score on offer for his eight second dance with Titanium (Ruhland Ranch Bucking Bulls), to ensure himself a place on the leaderboard.

Ben Bode was also able to get the ball rolling on his 2024 PBR Australia season, getting an 82-point score with Just Right Fencing & Fab Gin n Juice (Ruhland Ranch Bucking Bulls) providing the goods for the southpaw to hear the whistle for the first time this season.

PBR veteran Beau Willis was the only remaining rider to add a number next to his name, grabbing his 2nd qualified ride of the season on Houston Calling (Ruhland Ranch Bucking Bulls) for a cool 82 and a half points to share the round with the aforementioned Toby Hale

With Boston Leather's 84-point tally enough to give the Calliope product his first PBR Australia event title, he moves to the top of the PBR Australia standings and is currently sitting 4-from-10 on the season as the tour moves onto Beaudesert next weekend.
