PBR Australia Grand Finals: Night 2 Matchups to Watch

Round 3 matchups of the PBR Australia Grand Finals in Townsville

By Josh Hanson

The cowboys rode fourteen bulls last night, which is slightly below what we expected, but we should see that riding percentage improve tonight.

Round 3 was a draft round, with the top-performing bulls from Friday night returning for a second trip, meaning the riders who paid close attention last night could set themselves up for a strong finish to the season.

Check out the Daysheet for Championship Saturday.

Let’s break down the matchups for the top 5 in the event aggregate and 2025 PBR Australian National Championship contenders.

Round 3

Pick 1 - Daniel Keeping on Y01 Razor Sharp (CF7 Bucking Bulls)

There was no hesitation from the Texan as his name was called. These two met up in the short-go at the 2024 Grand Finals, and they won the round with a sensational 88.25-point ride. Razor Sharp continues to be a great pick for a left-handed rider. All six qualified rides recorded aboard him have gone the way of lefties for an average mark of 86.63 points. This will be the bull’s last trip, so it would be great to see the pair team up again for a top score. Last night, he also rode two nice bulls to extend his streak to nine straight qualified rides.

Pick 2 - Macaulie Leather on 359 Nine Ball (TF Bucking Bulls)

Leather also rode both of his bulls last night, and both bulls turned back away from his hand. That makes it six qualified rides out of his last seven attempts for the Calliope cowboy. We saw Luan Crystian Camara score 84.5 points on this bull last night. Nine Ball can be a bit unpredictable and mixes up his trips, but his tempo is pretty good once he settles into his spin, and for that reason, the cowboys manage to cover him 50% of the time.

Pick 3 - Jake Gardner on B02 Da Bear (Lazy G Bucking Bulls/Pukallus Partnership)

Callum Miller scored 86.25 points and finished third in the opening round aboard this bull last night. He is consistently around to the right, which will put him in Gardner’s hand. The Canadian made a sensational ride last night to split Round 1 with Daniel Keeping, but he let his second bull slip away from him, so he will be eager to seize this opportunity and put pressure on the race for the event title.

Pick 4 - Callum Miller on 306 Rambo (Dittmann Bucking Bulls)

Miller said he watched Gardner make his ride aboard Rambo last night for 86.50 points and knew he wanted to pick him today. These two should suit each other perfectly. Rambo will turn back to the right and give the Warwick cowboy a great chance to really go after him and be a bunch of points. Rambo is another bull that is being retired this weekend. Four of the eight qualified rides recorded on him have been good enough for a round win, and we could make it five.

Pick 5 - Andrew Alvidrez on 172 Roam Aviation Without Warning (Dunne Bulls)

Alvidrez told me he chose this bull based on a recommendation from Lachlan Richardson, and they seem like they should get along well. Brady Fielder scored 84.5 points on Without Warning last night. He’s another bull that follows a pretty predictable pattern, turning back to the right, which will put him right where the Texan wants him. They’ve won a lot of money on this bull over the past month or so, and there could be a decent cheque on the line here.

Pick 8 - Luan Crystian Camara on 904 Halliday Witch Way (Dittmann Bucking Bulls)

This is the bull Daniel Keeping rode last night to share in the Round 1 win with 86.50 points. He turned back to the right, and a repeat of that will suit Camara just fine. The Brazilian sits in seventh place on the aggregate leaderboard, and he also managed to peg back a bit of ground in the race for the gold buckle last night. His confidence will be high heading into this matchup.

Pick 10 - Kurt Shephard on 943 Highly Strung (Dunne Bulls)

Highly Strung got the better of Clint Glass last night in Round 2 after he turned back to the left with plenty of vigour. That is a standard trip for this bull, although he can reverse to the right late. Shephard gritted out 82.5 points aboard On Edge last night, and he has now ridden three of his last five bulls. The Mareeba bull rider should get a good start aboard this bull, but he can’t get complacent and needs to ride him until the whistle sounds. A qualified ride here could wrap up the National Title race.
